About 9th Street Skatepark

9th Street Skatepark is a legendary community-built DIY skatepark located at 707 Schroyer Ave SW inside West Park in Canton, Ohio. The park was constructed directly on top of an abandoned set of green asphalt tennis courts and has grown over the years into one of the largest and most respected DIY facilities in the Midwest. The smooth asphalt flatground provides a massive riding area, while local skaters and BMX riders continuously expand the park with custom-poured concrete obstacles funded through community jams and fundraisers. The enormous footprint of the former tennis courts creates plenty of room to maintain speed between features. The street section includes assorted flatbars, round rails, square rails, slappy curbs, parking blocks, manual pads, and concrete ledges of varying lengths and heights. Some ledges feature metal angle-iron coping while others retain raw concrete edges. The park is also home to a well-known gap setup that regularly appears during annual 9th Street BMX Jam events. Transition features are spread throughout the park and along the perimeter of the courts. Multiple concrete quarter pipes of varying heights and transitions line the outer edges, providing continuous lines and speed. A distinctive painted dish-style corner section incorporates a curved quarter pipe with an attached kicker, while additional banks, kickers, rollers, humps, and a central volcano feature help riders generate speed without pushing. A freshly paved blacktop pump track sits adjacent to the skatepark and offers additional riding opportunities. Stadium lights are available through a timer-controlled relay switch near the entrance, allowing evening sessions until approximately 11:00 PM when activated. As a true DIY facility, 9th Street continues to evolve through the efforts of the local skateboarding and BMX communities, with organizations such as CTN Skateboarding regularly supporting jams, fundraisers, and future expansions.
