About Arlington Heights Skatepark

Arlington Heights Skatepark opened in October 2025 at Recreation Park, bringing public skateboarding back to Arlington Heights after the former Legacy Park skatepark closed in 2020 during construction of the Arlington Ridge Center. Following community feedback and a town survey, the Arlington Heights Park District selected Recreation Park as the location for a new permanent skate facility to serve local skaters. Designed and built by Spohn Ranch, the new concrete skatepark features a flow bowl alongside a street-focused plaza layout with integrated transitions, hips, curbs, ledges, and manual pads. The park was developed as part of a larger Recreation Park renovation project intended to create a more accessible community recreation hub connected with nearby park amenities. Construction began in summer 2025 and continued through early fall ahead of the grand opening ceremony on October 2, 2025. The opening drew roughly 200 attendees and included skate vendors, food trucks, giveaways, live music, and a ribbon-cutting celebration commemorating the park district’s 100th anniversary. Since opening, the park has quickly become an active daily gathering place for the local skateboarding community.
