About Asylum Skatepark
Asylum Skatepark: Chicagoland’s Premier Indoor Sanctuary
Now operating out of its upgraded, massive warehouse location in Round Lake, Illinois, Asylum Skatepark stands as the crown jewel of the Midwest’s indoor skate scene. Originally founded in Lake Bluff in 2010, this skater-owned-and-operated sanctuary underwent a massive relocation and rebuild to offer riders a bigger, wider, and vastly improved layout. Built "by skaters, for skaters," the park has completely eliminated the slickness of traditional indoor parks by wrapping its entire setup in ultra-grippy, ultra-smooth Gator Skin surfacing—making it the ultimate year-round riding destination, especially during brutal Illinois winters.
The flow of the park is meticulously optimized, bridging the gap between transition specialists and technical street riders. On one side, transition riders can carve up a massive, deep wooden bowl with a custom extension wall, or session a unique double-halfpipe setup bridged by a spine and lined with distinctive diamond coping. On the street side, the park is packed with creative, scalable features—including tiered "warm-up" hubbas, a classic salvaged street ledge, and even a piece of skate history: an authentic marble ledge preserved from Chicago's legendary former "Crush" park.
From a dedicated "kiddie" learning zone near the entrance to high-flying pro-level sections, Asylum lives up to its name as a true community refuge where riders of all ages, skill levels, and disciplines (skateboards, scooters, inline, and BMX) can progress without judgment.
