About Charleston Skatepark
Tucked beneath the Interstate 64 bridge near downtown Charleston, the Skatepark of Charleston—often referred to as the Magic Island Skatepark—is a perfect example of transforming overlooked urban infrastructure into a thriving community hub.
Thanks to its location under the massive concrete canopy of the highway, the park offers something most outdoor skateparks can't: built-in weather protection. The bridge provides shade during West Virginia's hot summers and helps keep much of the park dry during passing rain, making it a dependable place to skate throughout the year.
The Setup
Designed and built by American Ramp Company in collaboration with local skaters, the park features a versatile layout that caters to a wide range of skill levels and riding styles. The modular Pro Series setup was selected to satisfy Department of Transportation requirements while delivering a durable, low-maintenance riding experience.
Colorful artwork on the bridge pillars adds personality to the space, helping transform what was once an underutilized area into one of Charleston's most unique skate spots. Adjacent to Magic Island Park and easily accessible from neighborhoods throughout the city, the skatepark has become a popular gathering place for skateboarders, BMX riders, and the broader local community.
