About Houghton Skatepark

Houghton Skatepark, located along the scenic Keweenaw Waterway at East Houghton Waterfront Park near 1220 E Lakeshore Dr, Houghton, MI 49931, is a 5,000-square-foot outdoor concrete facility. Constructed in 2018 and officially opened in 2019, the park was designed and built by Spohn Ranch Skateparks. The project was made possible through extensive local community fundraising, matching grants from the Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC), and support from the Tony Hawk Foundation, making it only the second professional concrete skatepark in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. Rather than focusing on heavy vert bowls, the transition landscape is built around approachability and flow, anchored by quarter pipes, hips, and bank ramps that help riders generate speed and redirect back into the center of the park. The core footprint functions as a compact modern street plaza equipped with flat rails, grind ledges, manual pads, and tables. Spohn Ranch's layout maximizes a relatively small footprint to deliver a highly functional continuous-flow environment. Combined with its waterfront views and accessible obstacle scaling, the park serves as an inclusive destination for the local scene and a blueprint for future concrete builds across the region.
