About Waller Street Skatepark

Zion Skate Plaza, formerly known as Waller Street Skatepark, sits beside Golden Gate Park at Stanyan and Waller Streets in San Francisco. Originally built as a grassroots DIY skate spot in 2011, it later became the first officially permitted skatepark in the U.S. created from a converted city street and parking lot. Designed with input from local skaters and Spohn Ranch, the plaza focuses on authentic street skating with smooth asphalt, quarterpipes, rails, banks, ledges, and manual pads—including reclaimed granite and marble ledges from San Francisco’s historic Market Street. Renamed in honor of local skate advocate Zion Williams Gaines, the park represents the city’s deep skateboarding culture, community-driven spirit, and inclusive atmosphere for skaters of all skill levels.
