About Wilson Skatepark

Located near Montrose Beach at W. Wilson Ave. and N. Lake Shore Drive (approximate coordinates 41.97, -87.65), Wilson Skate Park is a lighted, outdoor concrete facility that opened in 2004 following a $1.4 million development initiative. Designed by SITE Design Group, the park spans approximately 22,000 square feet, though the specific construction crew responsible for the original concrete pour remains somewhat undocumented in public municipal archives. The layout provides a mix of street and transition features designed to maintain flow across a fairly expansive footprint. Transition Terrain: The park's signature architecture includes a 10-foot keyhole, a 90-foot snake run, and a large open bowl with a center island, providing multiple hips, corners, and quarter pipes ranging from 4 to 6 feet. Street Elements: The flat ground area is spread out and includes an 8-stair set with grind ledges, a pyramid, two square rails, various grind boxes, banks, and curbs. Infrastructure: The facility operates with free admission, features a traditional concrete surface, and is equipped with lighting to accommodate evening sessions.
